Wayfinding Analysis & Concept Development

Exterior Wayfinding Analysis/Strategy & Sign Family Concept Development

(Done in conjunction with Perkins + Will)

Located just outside of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the Princess Noura bint Abdulrahman University is a women-only educational campus with an approximate capacity of up to 40,000 students. The campus is divided into several college specific campuses, including a separate medical research campus and hospital area. It also includes student recreation and housing areas, as well as faculty/staff recreation and housing. The entire campus was connected and accessable via an elevated monorail system incorporating 16 elevated train stations.

Perkins + Will / Dar Al-Handasah, are the project architects. Due to the complexity and scale of the project, they sought out and engaged Labozan Associates to develop the wayfinding methodology for the exterior of the campus, as well as design of the exterior wayfinding signage.

The exterior wayfinding signage strategy for the campus was developed as an extension to the interior wayfinding program, and compliments the architecture and landscaping of the campus. Design elements from the interior program were considered and incorporated into the exterior sign family to create a holistic and seamless campus-wide wayfinding system.
